2019: Georgia to South Carolina

4/2/2019
Depart: Thunderbolt Marina 10:40
Arrive: Port Royal Landing Marina, Port Royal, SC 3:45
Distance: 39 nm

Despite the dire warnings of inclement weather to the north, given to us by the Thunderbolt Dockmaster, we continued on our way this morning with a delayed start to let the chill in the air dissipate a bit. Just before we left, the Survey Boat docked beside us at the Thunderbolt Marina departed to start their day's work.

We drove from the pilot house today to keep out of the chill wind. Since we rarely drive from down below, it took some adjustment to get used to the totally different arrangement of the instruments. Clark did almost all the piloting today while I sat on the bench seat behind him and entertained myself.

We got to the marina just before 4:00 and were greeted by Tim, the friendliest dockhand I think I have ever met. The marina records indicate that this is our second stay at this marina; however, everything looks new to both of us. Perhaps we had bad weather last time, whenever that was, and never got off the boat to look around.

This visit, we decided to take advantage of the marina's courtesy car and drove to Publix. Since the marina gave us no deadline for returning the car, we stopped at West Marine after our stop at Publix and then I convinced Clark to eat out tonight - a very rare event. The dinner we ate at Madison's moved this restaurant to the top of our most enjoyable meals out list. Clark had crab cakes and I had sauteed grouper. We found sharing each other's seafood to create a combo delightful to our palates. The vegetables that accompanied the food were well prepared also.

When we got back to the boat, we turned on the television and warmed up the PC, so I could catch up on the blog while watching the news and then later NCIS.
