Georgia Travel Decision

3/20/2017

We set the alarm for 7:00 to be at Enterprise when they opened at 8:00 this morning. The rest of the day was spent traveling to and from Georgetown, SC to drop off our personal car to be there when we arrive in about a week's time.

We managed to get back to the rental office at 5:50. They closed at 6:00 but still gave us a ride back to the marina. The driver coughed all the way, so now we wonder if we will stay healthy. He said it was allergy related, but we both had our doubts.

Clark said that tonight's sunset picture would be a copy of yesterday's paper mill version, so he did not venture out with the gnats to take another one. After dinner, we took care of miscellaneous tasks. I backed up documents and pictures from my PC to a standalone drive and updated my budget tracking data. Clark did whatever it is Clark does at night on his laptop.

We plan to get an early start tomorrow. As of the writing of this blog entry, we have not decided if we will travel for two days on the ICW or one long day "on the outside", i.e. the Atlantic Ocean. Clark said that the trip on the outside will be 85 nm long with 2 to 3-foot seas on the stern quarter.  Best case, at 8.5 knots, that works out to 10 hours on the move. The next two days are predicted to be around 85 degrees, so the inside will be hot and buggy. We do have the option to drive from the pilot house with the air conditioner running if absolutely necessary, but that is not something we would normally consider.

Before leaving Brunswick, we plan to pick up fuel to take advantage of the fuel prices here. The time required for this activity adds into the travel-time equation. Basically, we have a big decision to make after fueling ... one real long day (if still feasible) or two shorter, but hot and buggy, days. Hmmmm!
