2024 Bahamas Exuma: Black Point Blow Hole

14 March 2024

"Big Moose" told us about a short hike to a blow hole here in Black Point and offered to walk with us this morning to go see it. The four of us met up at 10:30 at the government docks for our short excursion.

The main events of this gathering began at 5:30, so Clark had time this afternoon, as did others, to get together for a Jam session on the boat "Reverie". Folks came with harmonicas, guitars, maracas, and even bongos. Clark said it was a mixed bag of interests from blues to pop music. Each attendee got to pick songs in a round-Robin type fashion.

Thank goodness I bought him a backstrap-type guitar case when we were in Marathon. It has gotten a lot of use. As he climbed in the dinghy, he said, "Get a picture of this!" He did not even take it off for the ride to "Reverie" but did find he needed to fold the seat down to be able to have room to drive.

On his way to go play!

I decided that since I do not play any instruments, I would just be taking up space, so I stayed onboard and published a Blog update. I have to grab the WiFi when I can get it. The cell service, and therefore my access to WiFi, is intermittent at best.

The Boater's Gathering kickoff was a buffet dinner with a live band. The agenda said that the buffet would start at 5:30. Mid-afternoon I heard a shout out on VHF Ch 68 that volunteers were needed to help setup for the buffet. When we arrived at 5:00, the tables were still being setup. The ones that were setup had boat names at place settings. We finally found ours, but it said, "Sunset Light" like we are some kind of light beer or something! We penciled in "DE" in front to correct it.

Food finally came out about two hours later, and we finally had something to eat, after standing in lines, by about 7:30. Dinner included rice, ribs, roasted chicken, and fried fish. As we walked up to the buffet, a server handed us a plate of food, so we did not serve ourselves.

We left early. The band had the volume cranked up so high the music and his announcements were distorted. I do not like navigating the dinghy dock ladders in full dark, so we left before the event ended.
