2020: Wilmington NC to Waccamaw River SC

 24 October 2020
Depart: Eagle's Island Anchorage 7:48
Arrive: Waccamaw River Anchorage SC 5:45
Distance: 75.6 nm
Conditions: Morning Fog and Dew, 63 degrees going up to 81, Afternoon Sun

Clark specifically wanted to anchor in the Waccamaw River area due to how picturesque it is. He said it would be a long day (about 8.5 hours), and we needed an early start. It took almost 10 hours travel time to reach his chosen spot. With it being a Saturday, we had lots of small boat traffic to contend with and two swing bridges that we needed to have opened for us.

We started the day with fog in our anchorage.

What a difference it is traveling the ICW versus the ocean! On the ocean, we get to look at pretty boring waves for 8 hours. On today's travel, we had lots of sights to keep us interested for the whole trip.

To start, we saw lots of boats in a variety of shapes and sizes along the way. Some in better shape than others!

We passed many eye-catching houses. Some due to their vibrant colors and other owing to their unique architecture.

Even on the water we cannot get away from politics.

"Trump 2020" / "Deplorables for Trump"

Sadly, as usual, we noticed storm damage. Seems every time we come through we see damage from whatever was the last storm to hit.

One of the worst hit places this year was Southport Marina from Hurricane Isaias. It does not look bad until you realize that the marina is supposed to have floating docks as shown in the picture taken from the chart!

No Floating Docks

Dock probably hit by something to lift it

Lots of little boats out sightseeing or fishing

Clark liked this colorful tree in
among all the green ones

At the end of the trip, Clark was happy to get away from buildings and into the more rustic scenery of the Waccamaw River.

We tucked into our anchorage in Enterprise Passage just off the Waccamaw River just before dinner time.

No sunset picture tonight but Clark did get the moon!

25 October 2020
No Travel.

It started raining at 5:30 this morning and turned into a dreary day. With no rush, we decided to hang out at this blissful anchorage for a second night.
