We dragged ourselves out of bed for another long day on the water. Predictions of swells coming from the southeast promised a reasonable trip in the Atlantic. Unfortunately, they lied, and we had swells from the east northeast for the whole day. The waves measured around 4' with some higher at times. We drove from the inside / pilot house today because it was windy, wet, and raw.
Not many boats ventured out on the ocean. We overheard two sailboats discussing their travel plans. One planned to go on to Sandy Hook. The other said they were turning off at Barnegat. Not clear but it sounded like the Sandy Hook folks then decided to bail out and join the Barnegat folks. They had heard the same incorrect wave direction report we had heard. Given the miserable conditions on the ocean, I could well understand their change of plans.
Since we were both focused on getting home tonight, we did not even consider a Plan B bailout. We just kept rocking and rolling along. Clark tried to position us for travel outside the fish trap zone. Even so, we did find two traps. Fortunately, we saw them in time to avoid wrapping them around the props. Staring at the ocean waters for 9 hours looking for traps is beyond tedious.
Fog covered the shoreline the whole day making picture-taking a lost cause. As we got closer to Sandy Hook and home, Clark did make the attempt to get some pictures - all taken from the ocean looking at shore.

Once we rounded the hook the waters settled down. Since we were both hungry and would have things to do once we arrived home, I cooked up some hot dogs and veggies for a quick meal along the way. After rounding the hook, we still had another hour and a half to go to get to our dock.
We were happy to arrive home in daylight. Having taken all our lines with us, it took a while to get the boat tied the way we like it. Then we had to wake up the house. All is well. It's good to be home again!
