Alabama: Joe Wheeler State Park (Day 6)

Day 116
No Travel

We woke up this morning to the sound of boat engines coming to life.  We saw at least 20 boats leave this morning starting with a flotilla of 15 that left before 8:00 a.m. and followed by two smaller groups about an hour or so later.

The first 15 boats gather to depart downstream
on the Tennessee River

After the excitement of all the boats leaving, we relaxed until 10:00 when the "Prepping Your Boat For Sale" seminar began.  The length of the presentation surprised both of us; the small number of attendees did not.  When we arrived, only one other couple was there to hear what the broker had to say.  Later one other person joined in until the end of the discussion.

Although we do not plan to sell Sea Moss any time soon, it is always good to know what makes an asset sell faster and for more.  The session ended just after noon, so we got lunch and then decided to "walk the docks" to see which loopers had not yet left the marina.  We found a few folks to talk to as we walked from one end of the marina to the other which is a rather long distance as the docks are spread out.

I intended to do a load of laundry today, but as I exited the "prepping" seminar I found out from another looper that the line for the one washing machine at the marina was five people long.  I rapidly removed that item from today's agenda.  It can wait another day.  After such a busy week I felt very tired.  I hung out on the couch while Clark zipped around the boat taking care of odd jobs.  I should have felt guilty but instead I fell asleep right there on the couch.

One of the jobs Clark tackled was pulling the stove out of the counter to investigate the liquid propane leak we have been dealing with for the past few weeks.  He brushed some liquid soap on the connector where the gas comes into the stove and got bubbles.  He opened up the connector, cleaned it to a bright shine, and tightened it back up.  I am hoping that his work today will be sufficient that we can leave the tank turned on up top as it is a pain to dig under the bench seat on the fly bridge to turn on the gas valve before beginning to cook and digging in there after cooking to turn it back off again.

Once Clark put my stove back together, I made stir fry for dinner. I had a bunch of vegetables in the fridge and after all the deep fried okra and zucchini bites as well as canned or overcooked vegetables for rendezvous dinners, we enjoyed our home-cooked dinner tonight.  While we ate dinner, Clark turned on the television, and we got interested in first 60 Minutes then Madam Secretary and finally The Good Wife.  We did have some discussion before dinner regarding trying to get the laundry done tonight since it had emptied out from earlier, but honestly the thought of sitting in an unoccupied building with no one else around at 9:00 at night creeped me out. I decided to pass on that opportunity.

Instead I started to sort through the tons of materials and propaganda handed out during the rendezvous.  Right off the top I found several discount opportunities for future marina stays.  I have to dig further to see what else is useful in the stack and what can be tossed.  We took on way too much paper as a result of this shindig.  I am hoping that some large portion of the brochures and other papers can go in the trash.

We decided to leave here early tomorrow and head directly to Huntsville, AL.  We have signed up for a rental car while we are there so that we can see the local sites including the Space Center where Jeff attended Space Camp when he was 14 years old.  We never saw it at that time since we sent him there by plane all by himself.  He had a great time there; we are hoping to repeat that experience with our visit.
