Michigan: Manistee to Grand Haven

Day: 60
Travel Time: 9 hours
NM Today: 79
Total NM: 1359

We planned to go to Pentwater which is about 40 nautical miles from Manistee, but the water was so calm we decided to travel all the way to Grand Haven.  With that decision made, the trip doubled in length.  We departed Manistee at 8:40 and pulled into our slip in Grand Haven at 6:40.

Light House at Grand Haven

After a long day on the boat, I didn't have it in me to make dinner on board, so Clark decided we should go in search of good pizza for dinner.  We found Kirby's and had individual pizzas that were excellent.

After dinner we walked the pier out to the lighthouse we had seen upon our arrival.  The most amazing thing about Grand Haven is the amount of boat traffic coming into the harbor.  When we brought our boat into the inlet, Clark had difficulty getting over to the right for the marina due to the number of boats on all sides of him.  When we walked the pier at 9:00 at night, boats continued to pour into the harbor.

One continuous flotilla!

For our walk out to the lighthouse and back, we were moving as fast as we could through the crowds as we wanted to be back to our boat by 9:40 for the performance of the Musical Fountain which is one of Grand Haven's main attractions.  The colorful fountain display is synchronized to music.

When the show was over, I sent a short email to my son Jeff, and he quickly responded with a phone call which lasted until well past midnight.  With such a long day, the blog had to wait.
