We all had things we needed to do before we left the marina. While Clark took care of boat business, I pulled out the vacuum and gave the boat a good cleaning. It felt good to get rid of the dust and grime.
About an hour after we got underway, we came to a well-known trouble spot on the water at the Matanzas Inlet. As we approached the area, we came upon a boat, "Christina", with three men aboard who had an anchor down with one of the men diving under the boat to check his props. We asked if they needed assistance and they waved us off.
Immediately afterwards, we bumped ground under our keel. As Clark reversed engines to back off, I immediately grabbed my phone to call Cathy on "Home Too". I said, "Do not follow us. We are backing up! We are backing up!" We needed maneuvering room, and I worried that "Home Too" would come in too close.
As we backed out past "Christina", we mentioned that we bumped and one guy said, "That's how we got in this situation." One would think they might have mentioned that as they saw us heading into low water.
Clark called the dredge that we could see up ahead to ask how to proceed. Basically, it came down to traveling on the far right (it looked like we were going to be on the beach) until we reached the dredge and then move to the left side. As we maneuvered past the dredge, we found very shallow water and wondered how the three sailboats a short distance behind us would fare.
We listened on the radio and laughed when we heard one of the boaters say, "Why is everyone going so far to starboard?" I thought to myself, "wouldn't you like to know!" Hopefully, they all made it through without mishap. We later heard "Christina" on the radio, so hopefully their props survived their bump.
After that incident we had an uneventful ride to our anchorage for the night in the Daytona Beach area.

This anchorage proved to be beautiful. We had a cool breeze to blow away any would-be bugs and pretty city lights all around us. For a while, we stood in the cockpit and watched the lights of the airplanes as they took off from the nearby airport.
