At the moment we are essentially boat-less. Sunset Delight is on the hard due to replacing a thrust bearing and checking a stiff cutlass bearing on the starboard engine. It has been on the hard a few days. The repair has taken place with a touch-up on bottom paint currently underway before she goes back in the water.
Meanwhile, we are waiting for the repairs to be completed on the dinghy we trailered up to Connecticut. The new tubes took longer to arrive than expected, but the "Dinghy Pro" shop owner started prepping the hull for the new tubes as soon as he received the tracking information for the shipment. Hopefully, we will have both boats back and operational sometime soon.
With the marina closed on a Monday, today was the perfect time for Clark and I to go out to lunch with our long-time friends, Janet and Rich. Rich selected a restaurant in Keyport, NJ that none of the rest of us had ever visited called Burlew's Steak and Seafood. The restaurant has a lovely deck with a view of Keyport Harbor and Raritan Bay.
After lunch, Clark drove the two of us around the area. Neither of us have been to Keyport in years. A lot had changed. Newer houses have appeared in town. Earlier, on the way to the restaurant, I spotted some elaborate, albeit early, Halloween decorations! Since we were touring the area, I had Clark drive by and stop the car on the street, so I could jump out and take some pictures.
Not one, but three houses on / near Main Street went to a "no holds barred" effort putting on Halloween displays. Clark stopped at two of them for me, so I could run around with my camera in hand. I saw the masterminds behind the decorations were out working on the scenes at each of the two houses, no doubt dealing with last-minute finishing touches. October is clearly a highlight of their year!
The first house we stopped at entitled "Nightmare on Main Street" ...
Just down the road a tiny bit, the second house with a large cemetery ...

Outside the gate, they had some buttons to step on to get the characters to talk, moan, and move! |

Ghost Boat! |
The head stones in the property's "cemetery" were very clever.
Just yesterday, my dear friend, Cathy, asked if I had seen the swans that come into our creek recently. I said, "No, not for a while!" Today, they showed up. Apparently they needed some grooming as they took a long time with their "bath" in the creek. They were too busy to pose! I could not get a picture with either of them with their heads up for a shot.
Many folks have asked us when we plan to take the boat south. With both boats out of the water, doctor appointments coming up in early October, and hurricanes churning in the ocean, we do not have a definite date yet. However, I am busy collecting and stacking items in piles in readiness for provisioning the boat as soon as we have a boat and a target.
