Clark said that anyone watching our path south to Florida would wonder why we have made "wrong turns" three times on this trip. The first time, we missed the turn off onto Adam's Creek to follow the ICW and ended up at Ralph's dock in New Bern. After leaving New Bern, we traveled to Beaufort and then turned north, not south, after exiting the inlet. That took us to Cape Lookout for the night - a place we had not seen before. Today's "wrong turn" took us on a side trip to Wilmington, North Carolina - another place we have not had time to visit in the past.
Even though we did not leave until late morning, Clark managed to capture a sunrise picture to start our day.

Clark said we would have a short trip today and could have a leisurely start to the day. Generally, that means a 9:00 departure. Today, however, Clark got entangled in his email and was not ready to leave that early. Around 9:30, I asked and he said he needed about 15 more minutes to finish up. He finally said we could get going at 11:00!
I thought he would never be ready to go, but I found ways to keep busy. I read my latest novel for a while and then got busy organizing and cleaning the boat. The longer-than-15-minute delay gave me plenty of time to finish my task and feel quite accomplished!
We took so many pictures today that it was hard to decide which ones to include in the blog entry. Our trip to Wilmington took us on the usual ICW route until we turned north on the Cape Fear River.

As we approached Wilmington, we came upon a dredging operation.

As we approached the end of our Wilmington "drive by", we saw a fire boat up ahead practicing, so we moved on up for a closer look.

While Clark took photos, I piloted the boat as we traveled north on the Cape Fear River. Clark drove heading south, so I could get a better look around on the reverse trip.

Clark chose Eagle's Island as tonight's anchorage. I asked him later if he knew what island was right next to Eagle's Island.
